For a franchise which never seems to catch a break, the first two games of the Mariners' series in San Francisco have been prime examples of just this.

Friday's contest saw them lose 10-9 in extra innings despite season-highs of 15 hits and nine runs, while Saturday's game had Robbie Ray coming back to haunt them with 6.0 strong innings that contributed towards the Giants only allowing one Mariner to score in a 4-1 win for the Giants.

Now, the Mariners must try to find a way to win their series finale in the bay area and return to Seattle with some positivity, with first pitch scheduled for 1:05 p.m. PT. Here's more on Sunday's matchup, plus the likely starting lineups and how to tune in.

Starting Pitchers

For the Mariners: Bryan Woo, RHP (1-0)

There are plenty of people who believe that Bryan Woo was the Mariners' best starter by the end of last season, which speaks volumes when considering the quality of the rotation as a whole. In fact ESPN recently made the bold prediction that the righty will be the team's best starter in 2025, while Sodo Mojo's Tremayne Person made the case for him being the most underrated ace in the Majors.

Woo got his 2025 campaign off to an excellent start by going 6.0 innings against the Athletics in a 2-1 win, in the process allowing just three hits, two walks and one run, while striking out five. As was often the case last season, he relied on his fastball pitches against the A's, and it will be interesting to see how he does in his second ever appearance at Oracle Park.

For the Giants: Jordan Hicks, RHP (1-0)

Jordan Hicks' first season in San Francisco was not particularly impressive, as he produced a 4.10 ERA, 4.37 WHIP and 1.450 WHIP in a career-high 109.3 innings over 29 appearances (including 20 starts). However, he has still done enough to be included as part of the Giants rotation this season.

At least Hicks justified that faith in an electric first start against the Astros in Houston, going 6.0 shutout innings and only allowing just one hit and two walks, while also striking out six. Renowned for having one of the most electric arms in the Majors, he is expected to continue relying on his sinker, but he can mix it up with three other quality pitches.

What's at Stake?

No matter how much some people repeat the mantra that it's still early in the season — and yes, it is — it still doesn't feel good to view the MLB standings and find the Mariners sitting at the bottom of the AL West with a 3-6 record. Similarly, the optics will be negative if they return home from their short three-game road trip having been swept by the Giants.

It's no surprise to point to the offense as key to getting a win in the series finale, with the lineup still struggling as a whole this season despite Friday's nine-run explosion. What's been particularly crucial is the Mariners' inability so far in 2025 to come through with runners in scoring position, with their .121 batting average ranking dead last in the Majors.

Even with the assumption that the red-hot Jorge Polanco will be back in the lineup after sitting out Saturday's game, the Mariners need to start seeing more from the likes of Cal Raleigh and J.P. Crawford. We're going to predict a much-needed road win on Sunday afternoon, but we won't exactly be betting the house on it.
