Mariners probable pitchers & starting lineups vs. Oakland Athletics, May 10
Here are the Mariners probable players to kick off the three-game series against the division rival Athletics
After a less-than-stellar outing vs. the Twins, the Mariners seemed poised to bounce back against a surprisingly potent Athletics team. Despite entering the season with expectations as low as possible, Oakland is currently sitting at a record of 18-21, just 2.5 games behind Seattle.
The Mariners have historically performed quite well against the Athletics but if they want to catch the Rangers who currently sit atop the AL West by 1.5 games, they won't be able to overlook any opponent, big or small.
Mariners vs. Athletics: Probable starting pitchers
- Seattle will finally see the return of Bryan Woo who will be making his first start of the 2024 season. When addressing the media before the game, manager Scott Servais noted that he was excited for Woo's return and was aiming for a pitch count of around 80. He said that he would be extremely pleased if Woo was able to make it through the fifth inning but wasn't trying to push any boundaries. Servais also noted that the key areas of focus for Woo moving forward would be to get in pitcher's counts early and continue to develop a secondary pitch to complement his great fastball.
- The Athletics will be starting Paul Blackburn whose season is off to a great start. He's currently sitting at a 3.00 ERA and 1.02 WHIP over his first 42 innings pitched. He had a few strong showings at the beginning of the year but with a career ERA of 4.69, he's touchable. His four-pitch arsenal is diverse but his four-seam fastball and cutters are both vulnerable.
