The Mariners began the season as bad as you could think and most Mariner fans were on the here we go again boat. The Mariners didn't get their first series win until mid-April when they swept the Cincinnati Reds. The Reds series was the turning point of the Mariners' month and they would finish April winning the last 5 series with a 17-13 record.

Can the Mariners keep it going throughout the month of May? Let's dive into each of their matchups and see what Seattle has in store as the calendar turns another page.

Mariners' Schedule for May

Final game against the Atlanta Braves: May 1

Bryce Miller's 10 K's in game one and Mitch Garver's walk-off homerun helped the Mariners win game one of the series. In game two Castillo went 7 innings striking out 7 and Jorge Polanco led the offense with a two-run home run as the Mariners won game 2. Can the Mariners sweep the Braves to start May off?

3 game series @ the Houston Astros: May 3-5 and 4 game series at home May 27-30

The Astros do not look like the Astros everyone knows. But as we all know, that if the Astros get hot, then they are able to turn it on quickly. Injuries to their starting rotation have been the main reason for their bad start. But they just got Justin Verlander and Framber Valdez back, which is a massive upgrade to what they have been currently putting on the mound. The Astros currently are are 10-19

4 game series @ the Minnesota Twins: May 6-9

At the moment, the Minnesota Twins are one of the hottest teams in baseball. They are winners of 9 in a row and the longest streak in the MLB this season. The twins started off just like the Mariners but are now 16-13 and currently sit in 4th place in the AL Central, just three games back of the Cleveland Guardians.

3 game series vs Oakland Athletics: May 10-12

The Athletics have actually started the season off decently. They own a 14-17 record and are playing better baseball than they did all of last year. The Mariners should take care of business but this team could test the Mariners.

3 game series vs Kansas City Royals: May 13-15

The Royals are 18-13 and if the season ended today they would be in the playoffs. The Royals always seem to play the Mariners annoyingly well. They seem to put some of their best baseball together when they face the Mariners. Hopefully, for this series, it is the Mariners that do this to them.

3 game series @ the Baltimore Orioles: May 17-19

The Baltimore Orioles are one of the best teams in the AL and just keep pulling studs from their farm systems. They are led by Gunnar Henderson and Corbin Burnes. The Orioles sit atop the AL East with a 19-10 record. Last year the Mariners went 2-4 against the Orioles.

4 game series @ the New York Yankees: May 20-23

With the New York Yankees getting Juan Soto and Aaron Judge finally healthy they are making a case for being the best team in AL East with the Baltimore Orioles. They are only going to get better with their ace Gerrit Cole set to return by the end of May, but the Mariners should miss him. The Yankees sit at 19-12 and second in the AL East.

3 game series @ the Washington Nationals: May 24-26

Mariner's end their long road trip against the revitalized Jesse Winker and the 14-15 Washington Nationals. The Nationals are doing a lot better than most people expected but I still think the Mariners will take care of them and get a series win.

First game of 3 game series vs Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim: May 31

The Angels are back to their same old selves, Shoehei Ohtani is gone, Mike Trout and Anthony Rendon are hurt, and the Angels don't have any pitching. The Angels are 11-19 and shouldn't be much of a problem for the Mariners.

Prediction for the month of May

The Mariners will play 15 games against teams over .500 and 14 games against teams under .500, with seven of the games against the under .500 teams being the Astros. So this month could test the Mariners. My prediction is the Mariners go 17-12 for the month of May. I believe the Mariners hitting will come around this month and especially Julio Rodriguez.
