Seattle Mariners probable pitchers & starting lineups vs. Atlanta Braves, May 1

Can Emerson Hancock and the Mariners finish off the Braves and get the brooms out for the sweep?

The Mariners got their 5th series win in a row and head into May with a 17-13 record. I don't think I need to remind fans of the historical run this pitching staff is on. Luis Castillo silenced the Braves last night and Andres Munoz got his first five-out save of his career, while Jorge Polanco provided the offense with a two-run home run. The Mariners go for the sweep today behind Emerson Hancock.

The M's also gave the Braves their first back-to-back losses of the season, and will look to avoid their first sweep since early 2023. For the Mariners, they're looking for their second sweep of the year after taking care of the Reds back in the middle of April.

Probable starting pitchers

  • Emerson Hancock will get the start today and he is making a case to stay in the rotation as Bryan Woo gets closer to returning. Hancock in his last three starts has 12 K's, three quality starts, and given up a total of four earned runs. He definitely has gotten in a groove and the Mariners are going to have a tough decision to make when Bryan Woo returns from the IL.
  • Chris Sale has been an inning-eater in his last 3 starts. He has gone seven innings in each of his last three starts and striking out 20 batters along the way. On the season Sale owns a 3.69 ERA, .916 WHIP, and 33 strikeouts. I expect the Mariners will strike out out a bit today.
