Mariners Trade Proposal: A 2 player trade from the Giants to fix multiple weaknesses

Could the Mariners look to the Bay Area to find an outfielder to fix their offense? Michael Conforto of the Giants could be a good fit, alongside Camilo Doval

I'll beat this drum and mention it every time I write until the deadline, but the Mariners need offense. We've already talked about the positions that need to be updated and upgraded, and this current team just isn't good enough to make the playoffs despite sitting in first place as they enjoy the All Star break.

I keep looking around the league to see what kind of outfielders might be available. It's tough because of how darn close the NL Wild Card race is. So many of those teams could decide that they want to go for it, or at worse stand pat, and end up not trading pieces away. Could the San Francisco Giants be one of those teams?

Currently, they sit with a record of 47-50. three games back of the final WC spot. It makes me wonder if they would send out a rental in order to try and get back a little bit of value going forward. As a team that isn't afraid to spend money (must be nice), they could always just try and re-sign Michael Conforto, whether he finishes the year there or not.

The Mariners should trade for Michael Conforto and Camilo Doval

That's right, Michael Conforto. That's who I wanted to look at today to see if he would be someone that the Mariners could try and acquire to fix a hole in their lineup. Not just him though. We've seen that the bullpen still could use some more, especially after falling apart vs the Angels. Doval would be much harder to get with 3+ years of control, but 100% worth it.

Bringing in Conforto and sending out Canzone would make sense. You already have Raley and Julio and Haniger's corpse on the team, so there is no room for Canzone. Sending him to the Giants here could give them a platoon OF they could bring along and get a look at, and one that still has a lot of control before you have to start paying him.

Peete is the highlight of the trade, without question. A first round pick last year by the Mariners, he's been stealing bases effectively alongside a good walk rate in his first year of pro ball playing in Modesto. Then you throw in Walter Ford who has only seen rookie ball, but is still just 19 years old.

The big return for the Mariners here is Doval. You don't have Brash. Speier is out. Why not get a rental outfielder and then Doval, and hope to enter 2025 with an absolutely insane bullpen of Doval, Santos, Brash, Munoz. That makes me salivate just thinking about it.

Don't sleep on the improvement by getting Conforto, either. He has a 115 OPS+ this season and is slugging .438. That's something the Mariners desperately need. Replace Haniger/Canzone with that, and it's a big time improvement. Maybe this isn't the route the Mariners would go, but I think it would be a nice two birds/one stone type move for them.
