The Mariners look to even the series up against the Twins, needing a win to avoid losing back to back games for the second time in the last week

The Mariners kicked off a new series, but that was the only thing new, as the offense looked like the same ol' same ol' in the series opener against the Twins. They made Simeon Woods Richardson look like Pedro Martinez, forgetting how to hit the ball as they struck out seven times through the first three innings. They almost had another NOBLETIGER in the 7th, but eeked out a single run en route to losing 3-1.

The Mariners will look to even things up, but there offense is going to need to show up, especially as the team is throwing Emerson Hancock, the clear cut number 5 in their rotation. While his ERA has been good lately, his underlying metrics suggest that some bad starts are coming if he continues to pitch as he has this season.

Mariners vs Twins: Probable starting pitchers

  • The Mariners will be throwing Emerson Hancock, and he's facing a tough task to try and keep his good luck going. Nearly everything on his baseball savant page is blue, which is the exact opposite of what you want. While he has a 4.75 ERA and a 4.98 FIP on the season, I believe more in the 3.97 FIP over his last four starts as opposed to the 2.08 ERA. He needs to limit the hard contact if he wants to stick in the rotation, and this is a big test to do so.
  • Meanwhile, the Twins have Bailey Ober on the mound, one of the tallest pitchers in the game at 6'9". He had an awful opening to the year, but did incredible in his next four starts before being hit around against the White Sox. He's given up just 17 hits and 6 walks in his last 30.1 innings, so hits could be at a premium once again for the Mariners.
