Justin Hollander the Mariners GM gave updates on several players' injuries. Most notably center fielder Julio Rodriguez and shortstop J.P. Crawford. Hollander also gave updates on Matt Brash's recovery from Tommy John Surgery. As well as updates on Dominic Canzone, along with prospects Felnin Celesten and Jonny Farmelo.
The expectation is that Julio Rodriguez will rest for a week before the Mariners reevaluate his ankle. Giving his ankle time to stop swelling and hopefully his reassessment of the ankle will go well. Rodriguez will travel with the team on the next road trip to Chicago and Boston. Though it is uncertain he is going to return or be able to play when the team is on the road.
The Mariners are dealing with a plethora of injuries
J.P. Crawford broke his hand and will be out for 4-6 weeks. The injury timeline is what is as far as broken hands go. He could return to action within that timeline, but Hollander did not make clear whether J.P. Crawford would return immediately after the 4-6 weeks was up.
Dominic Canzone will be in Arizona as he recovers from a right adductor strain. He will be out for four weeks.
Mariners outfield prospect Jonny Farmelo had surgery on his ACL last week which went well, Hollander expects him to be back for Spring Training next year.
Matt Brash's recovery from Tommy John Surgery has gone well, he could start throwing sessions in mid-August, but will not be back this season.
Mariners shortstop prospect Felnin Celesten is going to see another doctor to find a better spot on his wrist to inject a shot to relieve the pain in his wrist. No timeline was given for Celesten's recovery from his injury.
The big news from this injury report was the timelines for CF Julio Rodriguez and SS J.P. Crawford's injuries. The big blow is J.P. Crawford will miss the next month with a broken hand injury. Hopefully, Julio will not miss extended time, but again that depends on how his ankle feels after it is reassessed next week.
