Padres fans have unrealistic trade request for Mariners on social media

Another "Gilbert for nothing" request.

The talk of this offseason for the Seattle Mariners has been the possibility of trading one of their young star pitchers in hopes of acquiring an elite bat to finally change the course of this offense.

We have heard pretty much every rumor out there, from a Luis Castillo, three-team blockbuster-type of deal, and even the ridiculous request from the Phillies, asking for Logan Gilbert or George Kirby in exchange for Alec Bohm.

The Mariners' pitching is elite. They have three arms that are arguably top 15-20 pitchers in the game and two of the most young, exciting and electrifying arms in Bryce Miller and Bryan Woo. It makes sense why teams want to acquire Mariners pitching and, to a certain extent, it makes sense for the Mariners to explore the market for one of their arms.

It makes sense why teams like the Orioles, Red Sox, and even Cubs would reach out to Seattle and offer up some of their offense in exchange for pitching. The Orioles have a dearth of infielders and some highly-touted prospects that might pique Dipoto's prospect obsession. The Red Sox have a few major league bats like Triston Casas and Wilyer Abreu in addition to two of the best prospects in the game, Roman Anthony and Marcelo Mayer (though they've been reluctant to discuss them). The Cubs have a number of major league bats that make sense like Nico Hoerner, Seiya Suzuki and Cody Bellinger.

However, it's an ownership group that has made some pretty questionable calls, handing out massive contract after massive contract in hopes of solving all of their issues, that have come crawling this time.

San Diego Padres fans begging Mariners to give them Logan Gilbert

This is honestly laughable. The Padres are competing for a World Series, yet their major league roster is full of expensive, overpaid players. Luis Arráez? No thanks. Jake Cronenworth? No thanks. Fernando Tatis Jr. would be wonderful, but no way he gets moved (and that contract is massive). Jackson Merrill looks like he's poised to become a star in the league, meaning the Padres won't move him. All of their prospects are in the low levels of the minor leagues and don't fit the Mariners' timeline at all.

We get the Padres want Dipoto and Hollander to just give Gilbert to them for Cronenworth, Arráez and a bucket of baseballs, but luckily for Mariners fans, Dipoto is smarter than that. There is no way that San Diego has the available pieces for this to happen. Keep dreaming, San Diego.
