The Seattle Mariners built one of the best farm systems in Major League Baseball awhile back when players like Julio Rodriguez, Logan Gilbert, and George Kirby were Minor Leaguers. After those guys reached the big leagues, the farm system took a bit of a hit.
However, in just the last two or three years, the Mariners have restocked their farm system with some talented young players and have regained their pedigree. In fact, Bleacher Report recently ranked them as the best in the sport.
Time for Trader Jerry to hop into action, right? It's not like all these guys will be ready and able to contribute to the team's current playoff window.
Bleacher Report gives Mariners nod as top farm system in MLB
The Mariners farm system is headlined by a pair of exciting middle infielders in Colt Emerson and Cole Young. Young brings promise of being a traditional pure hitter who puts the ball in play and doesn't strike out a lot. That type of player would be a breath of fresh air for Seattle after so many strikeout-prone hitters have reached the bigs.
Emerson looks to be solid in every phase of the game. In a season limited to injuries last year, he made his way to High-A Everett, where he likely starts the 2025 season. He also had a good stint in the Arizona Fall League where he showed off his hit tool to scouts in attendance.
The Mariners also have some talented players that they have signed through international free agency like Lazaro Montes and Felnin Celesten. Montes has been compared to Houston Astros slugger Yordan Alvarez. If he can hit enough to make the big leagues, he could be a capable DH or first baseman.
Felnin Celesten has not been able to play a ton of games in the states yet, but he has the highest upside of any prospect in the Mariners system. MLB Pipeline thinks that as he continues to progress, he could be a top-100 prospect the closer he gets to the big leagues.
Seattle also has a lot of fun pitching prospects who could impact the Mariners in the next year or two in different ways. They have right-handers Logan Evans and Michael Morales, both of whom had strong seasons in Double-A. There is also lefty Brandyn Garcia, who could be a sneaky bullpen arm for the Mariners in 2025 with his nice slider. To top it all off, the club drafted switch-pitcher Jurrangelo Cijentje, and he figures to be an impact player.
Overall, the Mariners have done a really good job of collecting young talent in their farm system. It might be time to trade some of those prospects to get proven big league contributors to help the team get back to the playoffs in 2025. Regardless, there are a lot of exciting players to keep an eye on or go see in 2025 at the Mariners Minor League affiliates.
