Not one. Not two. Not three. Call it four doubles in Colt Emerson's first start of the 2024 Arizona Fall League. In an unbelievable game on Oct. 8, the Mariners' No. 1 prospect clipped a four-extra-base-hit effort in the AFL contest with the Peoria Javelinas, convincing Seattle fans that this dude means business as the Mariners watch the MLB playoffs from their couches.
The Arizona Fall League has records dating back to 2005 and this is the only known four-double performance in 20 seasons. Overall in this game, Emerson went 5-for-6, driving in five runs and scoring twice.
"I don't think I've ever had a game like that," Emerson told MLB.com. "Our team battled. A lot of guys had great ABs, and we hung in there. It was a dogfight the whole time, so I'm happy to see our team fight like that."
Emerson, in the latest MLB.com Top-100 prospects ranking, landed at No. 27 overall. He was promoted from Single-A to High-A in 2024 and ended the season on a great note.
He batted .364 in September and has clearly carried that over to the Arizona Fall League, doing so with authority. For the cherry on top of his unforgettable game at the plate, Emerson also garnered a web gem at shortstop. He made a smooth diving grab to his left, throwing it to first to steal a base hit.
Emerson just turned 19 years old and, despite the amount of attention has received, he has shown gratitude in continuing to play the game he loves. He handed in in his second pro season batting .263 overall after hitting .374 in 2023 across 24 games. He logged 70 contests in 2024 and was an on-base machine (.393 OBP, 50 walks).
Emerson's dedication, talent and improvement has Seattle fans more than excited to continue watching him progress through the minor leagues before joining a Mariners squad that will definitely need his help at the plate and in the field.
Expect 2025 to be a big breakthrough year for the emerging youngster with how he's shown comfortability in his first sizable slate of professional action.
