Seattle Mariners fans aren't exactly thrilled to be seeing the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees in the World Series. While this may be the dream scenario for MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred, few other fanbases are going be leaping for joy watching the two top-spending clubs in baseball battling for a championship.
But Mariners fans can certainly get behind the anti-Astros sentiment being spewed from both teams ahead of the Fall Classic. Future Hall of Famer Clayton Kershaw and Yankees General Manager Brian Cashman had some unkind words for the Houston Astros this week.
Mariners fans will love LA Dodgers' pitcher Clayton Kershaw's comments about the Astros
Kershaw, who won't be available to pitch in the World Series, is obviously still harboring ill-will toward the Astros for their sign-stealing scandal back in 2017-18. In a recent interview, while talking about the 1-2 punch of Shohei Ohtani and Mookie Betts atop the Dodgers' lineup, Kershaw was asked about the best leadoff tandems he'd ever faced in his career.
The southpaw pondered the idea for a moment, and mentioned Astros' infielders Jose Altuve and Alex Bregman. Kershaw the quickly reminded those around him about the Astros' wrongdoing by saying, "But they cheated, so that’s not really the same.”
Mariners fans will get a kick out of the Yankees' GM Brian Cashman slandering the Astros
Few teams have more hatred for the Astros than the Mariners, however, the Yankees might take the cake. New York has been bounced from the postseason four times in the past decade courtesy of Houston, so you'll have to forgive the Yankees' GM if he sounds a bit disgruntled when it comes to his club's extended World Series absence.
Cashman appeared on Chris Russo's radio program and was irked by the host's reference to the Yankees' 15-year hiatus from the Fall Classic. Cashman told Russo, “I hate the 15-year thing because it completely forgets and discounts that some other organization cheated us when we were already in the end, if you knew what was going on, I don’t think they would be advancing during that time thing, I think we would have been advancing.” That "some other organization" is obviously a shot at the Astros.
So while it may be difficult to find a rooting interest in the upcoming World Series, Mariners fans can at least take solace in the fact that Houston is sitting at home this year and other organizations despise the Astros as much as they do.
