Astros fans jumped on chance to troll Mariners, Cal Raleigh after division clinch
One of the better rivalries that has developed in recent years has been between the Houston Astros and Seattle Mariners in the AL West. Now, it hasn't really been a competitive one because Houston has had much more success, but when it comes to head-to-head matchups, Seattle is actually 17-9 since the beginning of 2023.
Then again, that doesn't really mean much when the Astros have won the division seven out of the last eight years.
Part of that great rivalry extends to social media, and it is extremely entertaining. The Mariners--Astros back and forth on Twitter is some of the most silly content out there, and we're all here for it.
Earlier this season, as the Mariners got off to a great start and extended their division lead to 10 games, Seattle fans were all over social media, and rightfully so. However, it was just a matter of time before the sleeping giant that is the Astros awoke.
Astros continue Mariners dominance on Twitter after clinching AL West
Seattle once sat comfortably atop the division, and it seemed like they were finally going to take down the Astros, who have dominated the AL West for the better part of a decade. Midseason struggles and an epic collapse, along with the Astros going on an absolute heater has ended that chance. Right at the season's midpoint, however, the Mariners were understandably having their fun.
After game 84, where the Mariners won a tight contest against the Twins in extras, and the Astros lost to the Mets after winning seven straight, Cal Raleigh made a remark that has not aged well.
"Always good when the Astros lose right?" he said after the win. This brought in all sorts of Astros fans mocking the Mariners after Houston clinched the AL West on Tuesday. "Hate to SEA it," some wrote, making fun of Seattle's home run trident and talking about how the Mariners jinxed themselves. At the very least, the Mariners escaped Houston with a win on Wednesday to keep their playoff hopes alive as they spoiled Alex Bregman's potential farewell to the home crowd.
This is sure to ignite more and more social media battles as the season progresses, and hopefully Mariners fans can dish some back when the Astros are eliminated from the postseason. Seattle just needs to stay alive this weekend to keep the trash talk possibilities alive.
