During the week of Thanksgiving, there is one thing we can all count on: great deals! Black Friday is here, and the Mariners are looking for deals of their own.
Here are five things the Mariners are shopping for this Black Friday.
5 items on the Mariners' shopping list for Black Friday
1. A second baseman
Will Jorge Polanco return to second base? Or will the Mariners acquire a star like Bo Bichette or Ketel Marte? Or could the team go bargain hunting for someone like Isiah Kiner-Falefa, who has been a solid utility infielder in the past, and is much more affordable?
2. A third baseman
Not only do the Mariners need a second baseman, but they could also use a new third baseman. Or, an old friend in Eugenio Suárez? Will the Mariners bring back the strikeout-heavy power hitter who has brought so many good vibes to fans in his two-and-a-half years in Seattle? Or will they consider the more expensive alternative in Alex Bregman? Could anyone else play a factor in the Mariners' search for a third baseman?
3. A designated hitter
Let's face it; it's probably not a good idea to go into next season with Dominic Canzone as the Opening Day DH. Will the Mariners go out and acquire a big-name bat like Kyle Schwarber or Marcell Ozuna to be their designated hitter in 2026, or will they settle for a smaller fish like Luis Arraez?
4. More depth
The Mariners need more depth; that much is evident after their bottom third of the lineup struggled the way they did in the postseason. Seattle needs bench bats who can deliver clutch hits, defensive substitutes who can play great defense, and pinch-runners who can swipe bases. It's unclear if the team has any of that at the moment, but the good news is, there are plenty of cheap depth options on the market. Seattle might need multiple bench pieces this offseason, so they might want to get a head start.
5. A left-handed reliever
The Mariners already have a strong bullpen, but a reliable left-handed option would be nice. Caleb Ferguson turned out to be a bust after they traded for him from the Pirates, and Gabe Speier struggled in the playoffs, likely from being overused. The Mariners need a second southpaw reliever to lighten the load on Speier and check every box before they make another run at the postseason in 2026.
