Seattle Mariners CF Kyle Lewis lands on MLB Network’s Top 10 CFs list

MLB Network just aired its sabermetrics panel on the best center fielders in baseball, right now. And to my amazement, Kyle Lewis was included in the Top 10. I know the Seattle Mariners centerfielder is good, but I didn’t think he was that good.

Brian Kenny hosted three experts, Mike Petriello, Sarah Langs, and Vince Gennaro. All three of the experts had Mike Trout, Cody Bellinger, and George Springer at the top of the list, in that order.

Vince Gennaro, author of Diamond Dollars: The Economics of Winning in Baseball, Associate Dean at NYU Tisch Institute for Global Sport, and the Host of SiriusXM Sports Analytics show had Kyle Lewis at No. 7.

Gennaro also had Ramon Laureano (No. 4), Aaron Hicks (No. 5), Brandon Nimmo (No. 6), Ian Happ (No. 8), Alex Verdugo (No. 9), and Trent Grisham (No. 10) on his list.

Mike Petriello, MLB.com writer also had the Seattle Mariners outfielder on his list, but near the bottom. Petriello had Lewis at No. 9 right in front of Alex Verdugo.

In front of Lewis, he listed Grisham (No. 4), Nimmo (No. 5), Byron Buxton (No. 6), Luis Robert (No. 7), and Happ (No. 8).

Sarah Langs, of MLB.com, had Kyle Lewis at No. 7 just like Gennaro.

Last but not least, according to MLB Network’s “The Shredder,” it had Kyle Lewis at No. 6. The list might already surprise you because it leaves off some names like Ronald Acuna Jr., Juan Soto, Mookie Betts, etc.

But because the analysts took such a sabermetrics approach to their lists, it leaves off some of the common names you might expect. It is a good sign that Kyle Lewis is on the list and representing the Seattle Mariners.

Robots aren’t always right, but I don’t mind “The Shredder” choices after putting Kyle Lewis in the Top 10 for this upcoming season.

Kyle Lewis has some big expectations to live up to now. Can the 2020 AL Rookie of the Year make an All-Star appearance this season? Can he enter the MVP conversation? Can he win his first Gold Glove?
