Randy Johnson’s enshrinement into the Baseball Hall of Fame on Sunday was a great win for Seattle. Sure, RJ didn’t go in as a Mariner, but he is a Mariner great and is one of the main reasons the Mariners are still in Seattle.

But next year? 2016? Well, it’s time…

There will be plenty of chances over the next year to write about Ken Griffey Jr.’s greatness and his Hall of Fame chances/eventual enshrinement. Plenty of time to recite stats, play video montages, and shed some tears at just how great “The Kid” was. But right now, just get excited.

Ken Griffey Jr. is going to the Hall of Fame. He’s going next year. And he’s going to be the first person to don a Mariners cap in Cooperstown.

For a franchise that hasn’t had a lot in its history, that’s a very big thing. Junior is the favorite son of Mariners fans.

I’m sure you and I are the same. Griffey didn’t have a pristine reputation in terms of his relationship with the city or the media.

But it doesn’t matter.

No one speaks ill of Ken Griffey Jr. He’s ours.

Backwards hat. Black bat. Perfect swing. Griffey shoes.

Ken Griffey Jr. is ours.

And next summer, he’ll be on display for the entire world to see.

Reminder: The M’s take on the Diamondbacks tonight at Safeco Field. Mike Montgomery takes the hill in the series opener. The M’s are 6.5 games back in the wild card chase.
