Newcomers Lead the Way Tonight

I have already discussed tonight’s contributions from first-year Mariners J.A. Happ and Nelson Cruz, but a couple of other new Seattle residents also came up big for the M’s on Tuesday night. Rickie Weeks and Justin Ruggiano produced 2 hits each, and played stellar defense in the outfield.

Rickie Weeks has gotten off to a bit of a slow start offensively with the Mariners, but he hammered a Ross Detwiler fastball deep to left field in the 4th inning tonight. Weeks’ dinger left Globe Life Park in a hurry, and proved to be the winning run. He finished the night going 2 for 3, and looked much more comfortable out in left field.

Justin Ruggiano is going to merit more playing time if he continues to produce the way he has the last 2 nights. Ruggiano walked twice, stole a base and scored a pair of runs last night. In tonight’s ballgame, the M’s 4th outfielder went 2 for 4 and raised his season average to .250.
