Try something other than a boiled hot dog

Food, there’s lots of it. In fact, while baseball is certainly the number one thing on my mind tonight, KING 5, the Seattle Times and the Seattle Post Intelligencer all did a spread on Safeco Field food.

Gone are the days of stadium dogs and Cracker Jacks, Mariners’s head chef Ethan Stowell has expanded the menu at Safeco Field yet again, adding a plethora of new foods for us Northwest Foodies to enjoy. Stowell has put an emphasis on locally grown foods and has really tried to capture the Northwest food experience. Local names like Beecher’s cheese, Georgetown Brewing and Hot Cakes of Ballard will become ubiquitous around the diamond. Here are the highlights:

Wings are making an appearance in The Pen, there will be a few varieties, and each will feature local sauce from Bonache Sauce in Ballard.

Oyster po’boys made with Taylor Shellfish oysters, straight from Shelton.

Lets not forget about my personal favorite, the High Cheese Pizza will still be kicking around.

If you’re lucky enough to have terrace level seats (200 deck), then you will get a shot at some new fish and chips.

There’s a salmon slider this year too, which of course sources its salmon directly from the Puget Sound area.

Finally, I’m pretty fond of getting some food on the street next to Century Link Field, there’s been more and more food trucks popping up there recently and they have yet to disappoint.
