In a Seattle Mariners farm system rich with talent, it’s easy to overlook a name like Jared Sundstrom — but that may no longer be the case.

The 24-year-old outfielder has flown mostly under the radar since being selected in the 10th round of the 2023 draft out of UC Santa Barbara. But Sundstrom is making the most of his 2025 campaign at Double-A Arkansas, flashing the kind of tool set that makes scouts take notice — even in one of the toughest environments for hitters in Minor League Baseball.

Under-the-radar Mariners prospect flashing power-speed combo in Double-A

Through 56 games for the Arkansas Travelers, Sundstrom is slashing .233/.315/.403 with eight home runs, 31 RBIs,  and 19 stolen bases. While the raw numbers may not immediately jump off the page, they tell a more compelling story when you look deeper. His .842 OPS on the road compared to a .718 overall mark reflects just how tough Dickey-Stephens Park can be on hitters. The stadium’s deep outfield dimensions and heavy southern humidity have turned it into a notorious graveyard for fly balls — a factor that has stifled many Mariners prospects before him.

Baseball America recently spotlighted Sundstrom’s adaptability, noting: “The transition from High-A Everett to Double-A Arkansas can cause whiplash to Mariners prospects. But for Jared Sundstrom, his interesting tool set has helped him make the most of it.”

That tool set includes an easy, compact swing from the right side, surprising speed for his size, and enough raw strength to profile as a power bat in a corner outfield spot. Though he played center field regularly at Santa Barbara, evaluators believe his future is most likely in right field — or possibly as a fourth outfielder capable of filling in at all three positions. With his combination of speed, arm strength, and emerging power, he’s developing into a versatile bench weapon, and perhaps more.

Given the Mariners' outfield depth and ongoing roster construction heading into the trade deadline, Sundstrom could also surface as an intriguing trade chip. He’s the type of player who could headline the second tier of a package — not a huge centerpiece, but certainly someone opposing teams would ask about.

Whether he ends up part of the Mariners’ long-term plans or gets flipped for MLB-ready help, Jared Sundstrom’s rise in Double-A is no longer happening quietly. He’s earning attention the hard way — by performing through adversity and showing signs that he’s built for more.
