Seattle Mariners fans are on cloud nine right now. After an abysmal start to the year, they have strung together five straight series wins, including three on a pretty tough road trip.

Now, returning home for a pair of very winnable series, the Mariners will look to build upon their streak of great baseball. With the offense clicking, hopefully the return home will help the pitching staff reset itself and get back on track.

Here's a look at the starting pitchers and lineups for Friday night's contest against the Miami Marlins, with first pitch from T-Mobile Park scheduled for 6:40 p.m. PT.

Starting Pitchers

For the Mariners: Logan Gilbert, RHP (1-1, 2.63 ERA)

Logan Gilbert is unquestioned ace of this Mariners staff and has developed one of the nastiest pitches in the game. Though Gilbert has been elite, even Cy Young worthy, they need him to help the rotation get back to their usual ways.

Gilbert needs to work deep into this game, focusing on efficiency to help save some of the bullpen arms for later in the series. Against a mediocre (at best) Marlins lineup, Gilbert should be in for a good day.

For the Marlins: Cal Quantrill, RHP (1-2, 8.31 ERA)

Quantrill signed with the Marlins this offseason and things haven’t been pretty.

The righty is someone who doesn't possess elite stuff, instead relying on trying to control the zone and limit hard contact, yet his tendency to allow free passes this year (nine in just 17.1 innings) has made it hard for him to be very effective.

With the Mariners' new emphasis on patience, this could play right into their hands and spell a big night for guys like Miles Mastrobuoni, Leo Rivas, and Ben Williamson. Not to mention, Quantrill has allowed six stolen bases in his last two starts, something that the Mariners need to take advantage of.

What's at Stake?

While this series may not seem to have a lot of playoff implications, this is a great time for the Mariners to take advantage of some bad luck from division rivals.

The Texas Rangers have just been hammered with injuries, now losing Corey Seager and Kumar Rocker. This gives Seattle a great chance to achieve some separation in the AL West, as the Marlins are a weaker opponent than their 11-13 record indicates.
