The Ceiling: Dansby Swanson

I know Swanson doesn't hit lefty, but that's why it's a comp and not a replica pick. What I'm going with here is a guy who slots into your team as one of the top three players, and one that you can arguably build your team around. Swanson isn't a championship builder, but he is a guy you want on your team to help you on that path.

An average between 255-275, the potential to push into the 20s on homers while getting into the teens on steals, all the while playing above average defense, if not great defense at short? Yeah, that's something that every single team would want at shortstop. Batting average isn't what it used to be, so someone who hits .265 seems like a .295 hitter from 20 years ago.

I think this is what we could get from Emerson. that quick swing leads to a lot of balls struck hard without a ton of miss. He's only 17, so he's going to be tested a lot over the next few years as he sees better stuff as he progresses. That's commonplace though. The potential power is there, and with the ability to pull the ball with power, 25 HR isn't out of the question.

Do you think there is a better comp here for Emerson? Let us know, and I can't wait to see this kid get into the Mariners system over the next few years. Congratulations to Colt Emerson!
