What a roller coaster of a road trip for the Mariners. After losing two out of three in Baltimore, the Mariners won the first two games of a four game series in the Bronx against the Yankees. Spirits were high, and the Mariners had a chance to come off of this tough road trip with a .500 or better record. Then the Mariners lost the last two games in New York, and they managed to lose the first two games in Washington against the Nationals.

This is a must win game today for the Mariners. I know that sounds crazy on May 26th, but they need to finish this road trip with a win. That makes the long flight home more of a positive flight, and sets them up for a tough four game series against the Houston Astros. I know I would rather come into that series with a winning streak, even if it is just one game, than losers of five straight games.

Starting Pitchers for today's game, May 26th

  • The Mariners will turn to Bryan Woo (2-0, 0.57 ERA) for today's game. Woo is coming off of one of the best starts of his short career. Bryan shut out the Yankees over six innings, while he only gave up two hits and did not walk a batter. He struck out seven over those six innings. As impressive as that start was, his whole 2024 season has been great. He has pitched in 15.2 innings and has only walked two batters while serving up just six hits. None of those hits have been home runs. Look for Woo to continue his dominance today against the Nationals.
  • Veteran lefty Patrick Corbin (1-5, 6.29 ERA) takes the ball today for the Nationals. To say his career has fallen off would be an understatement. He signed a big contract in the offseason before 2019, won a World Series with the Nationals in 2019, and has not had an ERA better than 4.66 since then. The argument could be made that the contract was worth it because of the World Series title, but since then he has been a complete disaster. His best start of 2023 actually came against the Mariners, where he went seven shutout innings, striking out nine.
