Seattle Mariners Probable Pitchers & Starting Lineups vs the Tampa Bay Rays, June 26

The Mariners finish a difficult road trip, finding it hard to produce the runs needed to win games. After losing three series, fans are hopeful they will be successful against the Rays during their final game in Florida.

I am surprised the Mariners lost six games during this road trip against the Guardians, the Marlins, and the Rays. How can they improve? May and June were challenging in 2023 but in 2022, Seattle went on a fourteen-game winning streak beginning in early July. Perhaps such a streak this season will enable the Mariners to strengthen their lead in the AL as Houston is only 5.5 games behind.

It has been good to see Jorge Polanco back in the lineup and on second base after missing about a month on the IL. Bryan Woo will spend some time on the IL due to an issue with his hamstring. Excitement builds, however, as RHP Gregory Santos throws bullpens and will have a rehab assignment before his return. I am certain that the other relief pitchers will be glad for an extra arm!

Probable Starting Pitchers

RHP George Kirby will start for the Mariners. In his last start against the Marlins, George pitched seven innings, allowing only two runs. Unfortunately, he did not get run support and the game was a 3-2 loss for Seattle. Two of his fastball pitches led to home runs. Austin Voth was pitching when Tim Anderson had a walk-off home run in the 10th inning.

RHP Ryan Pepiot will start for the Rays. This is his first season with Tampa Bay having played for the Dodgers for two years. Pepiot has an ERA of 4.61 and a WHIP of 1.13. In 66 innings pitched, he allowed 52 hits, 23 walks, and threw 75 strikeouts. Opposing batters have a .215 BA. In a recent game against the Pirates, Pepiot struck three Pirates out and allowed two runs over three and one-third innings pitched.
