Since May 26 the Mariners are an MLB best 16-5. But their splits at home and their splits on the road are quite different. At home, the Mariners are 27-12 and on the road they are 16-19. Hopefully, they can change the narrative on this 9-game road trip and go 5-4 or 6-3 which I could see happening against the Guardians, Marlins, and Rays.
The Guardians will be a tough test for the Mariners, they lead the AL central behind Steven Kwan and Jose Ramirez and a pitching staff that has been surprisingly good this season. Mariners will have to find a way to cut down on the strikeouts and find a way to keep the Guardians off the base baths where they wreak havoc. This will be a tough test for them, as they went 1-2 at home against the Guardians in early April.
* Seby Zavala was DFA'd to activate Ty France from the Injured List.
Probable starting pitchers
- Bryce Miller goes for the Mariners and will look to build on his Gem against the Chicago White Sox, a game in which he went 7 innings, giving up 0 runs and striking out 8 while giving up 2 hits and 2 walks. Miller currently holds a 3.48 ERA and a .980 WHIP. Miller overall has been solid for the Mariners besides his dud against the Royals where he gave up 7 runs.
- Triston McKenzie will start for the Guardians. He has pitched ok for the Guardians, he currently has a 4.10 ERA, 1.412 WHIP, and 65 Ks in 68 innings pitched. McKenzie is pitching with a slight tear in a ligament in his elbow. The Guardians decided not to have Tommy John surgery and let McKenzie rest. So far there hasn't been any issues this season but his velocity has been down from his normal pre-injury velo.
