After a tough series loss to the Chicago Cubs, the Mariners have the opportunity to right the ship against the Cincinnati Reds. The Reds come to town with a record of 9-6, good enough for 4th place in the NL Central. The Reds have a ton of young, budding superstars in Elly De La Cruz, Spencer Steer, and former NL ROY Jonathan India. De La Cruz is the Reds version of Julio Rodriguez, and he is coming into town as hot as he can be.
Probable pitching matchup
For the Mariners, George Kirby takes the mound in his 4th start of the 2024 season. 2024 has gone about as bad as it can for George Kirby, as he currently is rocking an 8.16 ERA (13 earned runs in 14.1 innings). He has only given up one home run and has walked only two, but he has been hit hard so far. This is not an easy matchup for Kirby. The Reds are in the top 15 in baseball in nearly every offensive category. If they have one flaw, they strike out a ton. Look for Kirby to have double-digit punchouts tonight.
As for the Reds, old nemesis Frankie Montas will take the ball. Mariners fans may remember Montas from his days as an Oakland Athletic. He has had a career reboot with the Reds, as he has a 2-1 record with a 2.16 ERA so far in 2024. He is coming off of his only loss so far this season, where he gave up 5 runs (3 earned) to the Milwaukee Brewers. Montas has pitched quite a bit against the Mariners in his career, and he has a career record of 2-3 and an ERA of 2.72 against the Seattle Mariners.
