The Mariners started off hot in Friday Nights game, getting to Gomber often and early. They worked the count, got plenty of guys on base, and made the Rockies burn through their bullpen for over half of the game. The Mariners will look to keep the winning streak going heading into Game 2 against the Rockies.

Probable Starting Pitchers

We've got polar opposites going in tonight's game. On one hand, the Mariners will be throwing George Kirby, who doesn't walk people (1 in 10.1 IP, stretch of 15 in 117.2 last season) compared to Ryan Feltner, who has walked 8 people in 9.2 IP and had a rate of 3.2BB/9 last season. I think we have a better chance of seeing a multi-homer game from JP Crawford than we do of Kirby walking multiple people.

Yeah, yeah. "Don't jinx them". Whatever. It's my job.

Anyway, Feltner has gotten shelled in his two starts, giving up 4 H, 5 ER, and 5 BB in 4.2 against the Dodgers, then 6 H, 3 ER, and 3 BB in 5.0 against the Nationals. It's the second night in a row that, on paper, the Mariners have a great opportunity to put up some runs.

Seattle Mariners Starting Lineup

Personally, I hope to see a whole lot of Mariners wearing 42 cross the plate today. I've been enjoying teaching my 7-year-old about Jackie Robinson, and he thinks it's the coolest thing in the world that everyone in baseball is wearing Jackie Robinson's number. Also, he thought it was neat that the reason everyone in baseball does it is because of Ken Griffey Jr!

Bold prediction for tonights game. The bottom 3 of the lineup has a great night, going 4-9 with four walks, 2 doubles, and 4 RBI.

Thankful for Jackie Robinson

I got into it above, but I'm just thankful for the recognition that baseball has for Jackie Robinson. It's a great way for people to learn more and more about the game of baseball, and how it was changed and shaped by the actions of those a long time ago. From everyone in baseball wearing 42, to MLB The Show putting in a Salute to the Negro Leagues, it's nice seeing the recognition throughout the game.
