Probable Starting Pitchers

Luis Castillo will be taking the mound for the Mariners and will be going up against Drew Smyly. Castillo has been off to a fantastic start this season, going 11.2 innings, allowing zero runs, with just three hits and two walks. Smyly, on the other hand, has an 11.57 ERA and 2.36 WHIP through 4.2 IP. This could be just what the doctor ordered for the Mariners offense, helping them find another gear and get back into the swing of things (no pun intended) after a slow offensive start to the season.

Castillo looks to set the record for most scoreless innings to start a season by a Mariners pitcher, with King Felix and Big Maple each going 13 IP, if memory serves correct. Castillo has plenty of experience against the Cubs, as he will be going back to Chicago to face an old division rival, although few faces remain from many of his outings against them.

Seattle Mariners Starting Lineup

The bottom of the lineup looks a little different today, with Jarred Kelenic, Cal Raleigh. and Kolten Wong getting the day off. We probably didn't expect to see Pollock-Haggerty-Murphy-Hummell in order this early into the season, but maybe it'll be the spark that the Mariners need. Wong has been struggling despite hitting the ball hard. This could be an early make or break for this group, as they have struggled mightily to start the season.

Which Seattle Mariners Players need to bounce back in today's game?

I led into it earlier, but it's that group of hitters. Haggerty, Murphy, and Hummel are a combined 4-37. That simply will not work for the Mariners, much less any team in baseball. We've got to see something from at least one of them, especially one of the backup catchers. The Mariners have struggled to find value from a backup catcher that can stay healthy, so Murphy or Hummel are going to need to step it up today against Smyly and the Cubs.
