The Mariners are coming off of two series wins in a row, and will look to win their third series in a row against the defending champion Texas Rangers down in Arlington. The offense has come around, and the wins have started to come. The Mariners (11-11) are just 0.5 games behind the Rangers (12-11), and could leave Arlington with the division lead. That all starts tonight in game one against the vaunted Rangers.

The Rangers are almost fully loaded when it comes to their lineup. Budding star third baseman Josh Jung is out and will be for a while. He landed on the 60-day Injured List with a wrist injury. World Series MVP Corey Seager is a full go, along with superstars Marcus Semien and Adolis Garcia. Rookies Evan Carter and Wyatt Langford are names all Mariners fans should get to know because they will be around for a long, long time.

Probable starting pitchers

  • The Mariners will hand the ball to Logan Gilbert (1-0, 2.33 ERA) tonight. This will be Logan's 5th start of the season. GIlbert's baseball savant page is loaded with red numbers, indicating he is one of the best starters so far this season. His only real blemish so far this season has been the long ball. Gilbert has given up 4 home runs in his 27 innings of work, and he has been hit hard. His average exit velocity is 91.7 MPH (11th percentile), his barrel percentage is 10.4% (21st percentile) and his hard hit percentage is 41.8% (35th percentile). He will need to cut down on those to have a successful start against the Champs tonight.
  • As for the Rangers, they will turn to RHP Dane Dunning to start tonight's ballgame. Dunning, (2-1, 3.91 ERA) has had an up-and-down start to his 2024. In his last start, against the Detroit Tigers, he struggled with walks, walking 4 in just 5 innings. He has walked 13 batters in his 23 innings, something the Mariners will need to capitalize on. His baseball-savant page leaves a lot to be desired. The Mariners should be able to get to Dunning tonight.
