The Mariners started this difficult road trip off by taking just one from the Orioles, but that was expected, considering the injuries and tough stretch of games coming up. The Mariners, however, have played incredibly well to start the series against the Yankees. In game one they were shut down for most of the game before mounting an incredible comeback. In game two, the offense came alive, stringing together 10 hits and six runs, while Bryan Woo shut down the Yankees over six innings, giving up just two hits and striking out seven. Both Mariners; and Yankees fans will be treated to another solid pitching matchup today, as the Mariners look to lock in a series win and three straight.

Probable pitchers for tonight's game, May 22

  • RHP Bryce Miller (3-4, 3.08 ERA) will toe the rubber for the Mariners, looking to solidify a series win. Miller has been really good this year for the Mariners, thanks in part to a newfound splitter that is downright filthy. He got roughed up against the Orioles, but that is understandable considering their high-powered offense. He only struck out one and will look to get back on track against a tough Yankees lineup featuring a couple of MVP candidates.
  • LHP Nestor Cortes (2-4, 3.56 ERA) will square off against his former team. Isn't it weird to think of the time that Cortes spent with the Mariners? It was not as successful as his time with the Yankees. Cortes has been one of the better pitchers in the American League since joining the Yankees. He has been just as good this year, albeit up and down. He doesn't walk hitters but is susceptible to the long ball, something the Mariners would love to take advantage of in the hitter friendly Yankee Stadium.
