I cannot emphasize enough how much Mariners fans will miss Geno Suárez as he heads to Arizona! Geno and his good vibes were part of what made this group of guys special. I am in shock and denial, the first stage of grief and loss. I look forward to getting to know the new players when I have recovered.

Suárez’ Career

Eugenio Suárez is a native of Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela. Prior to coming to Seattle, Suárez played for the Tigers and for the Reds. He started with the Tigers in 2008, making his big league debut in 2009. The Tigers traded Suárez to the Cincinnati Reds in 2014 where he started as a shortstop and then moved to third base. In 2017, Geno received the Cincinnati baseball writers’ Good Guy Award. I(No surprise there.) He was a National League All-Star in 2018.

In September 2019, Suárez hit a new record for Venezuelan players with his 48th homerun. He was also National League Player of the Month that September. 2021 was a down year for him.

In March 2022, the Reds traded Suárez and Jesse Winker to the Mariners. He had an excellent 2022 with Seattle, batting .236 with 31 home runs and 87 RBIs. In 2023, he broke a record held by Edgar Martinez driving in a run in ten consecutive games. Martinez’ record was nine.

While he struggled with strikeouts, Suárez had seven seasons with 20 or more home runs; four seasons with 30 or more home runs and one season with 40 or more.
