MLB announces Mariners will play in 2025 showcase event in Little League Classic

The Mariners were invited to participate in the 2025 Little League Classic in Williamsport against the New York Mets next August. This is the first time the Mariners will participate in one of the premier events on the Major League schedule, and just the second time for the Mets. The Mets played the Phillies back in 2018.

The game will be played on Sunday, August 17th at 7 P.M. (4 P.M. PST) and will be nationally televised on ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball. Earlier this year, the Mariners hosted those same Mets on Sunday Night Baseball, when the Mariners won 12-1. That was the Mariners' first appearance on Sunday Night Baseball in over 20 years.

The Mariners were scheduled to play the Mets in their home ballpark, Citi Field, for a three-game series August 15-17. The first two games will be played as normal, with the teams traveling to Williamsport after Saturday's game. The Mariners will only have to travel about 200 miles down to Philadelphia to play the Phillies on Monday, August 18th.

The Little League Classic is played during the Little League World Series, a tournament played annually in Williamsport, PA. Teams from all over the United State and teams from other countries play in a tournament to crown it's champion.

Just this year, South Hill Little League, from Puyallup, made the tournament. Washington state has the most LLWS appearances out of the Northwest group, which includes Washington, Oregon, Hawaii, Montana, Idaho, Alaska, Wyoming, and Colorado.

Former Mariners who once played in the Little League World Series include Dan Wilson, Jason Bay, Jeff Clement, Cooper Hummel, and Michael Saunders. Other MLB stars include Cody Bellinger, Michael Conforto, and Jurickson Profar.

Tickets to this special game are not made available to the public, and the only fans in the stands will be players from the Little League World Series and their families. As always, Go Mariners!
