With five new additions to the projected opening day lineup and nearly two dozen new relievers in camp battling for what looks like three spots, the Mariner's spring training media guide is almost a must-have when following the action in Arizona or from home on the radio or television. The resource is a great way to learn about new faces in camp (Jorge Polanco, Mitch Garver) and reacquire yourself with old favorites like Mitch Haniger. This week, the media crew took things to another level when they added Tucker, the Mariner Pup, to the annual publication.

Tucker joined the club in August of 2022 as a part of manager Scott Servais and his wife's initiative to raise awareness for a purpose off the field, Washington's animal shelters and rescue programs. Players like J.P. Crawford, a known dog lover, have embraced the Golden Retriever's inclusion in the clubhouse and on the road. Ironically, Tucker's arrival coincided with the Mariners breaking the longest playoff drought in American sports history (21 years).

In the media guide, the Seattle Times reporter, Adam Jude, was the first to notice the youthful Golden calling out the official nature of his bio. The Mariners' media team had much fun with this one, even talking about Tucker's routine, which includes "playing fetch, visiting the clubhouse kitchen and running in the outfield." While the pup and social media star (@Marinerspup) is officially a team member, it isn't uncommon to see him crashing journalists' working sessions, albeit from a distance.

New players, such as Jackson Kowar, Michael Chavis, and Samad Taylor, will likely spend the next few weeks adjusting to the Mariner way in the clubhouse and field. However, Tucker, a mainstay since 2022 and an adorable new addition to the media guide will be helping them along the way, with four legs, a wagging tail, and all.
