Mariners vs. Mets prediction and odds for Saturday, Sept. 2 (Value on total)
The Seattle Mariners and New York Mets may play a low-scoring game.
The Seattle Mariners lost to the New York Mets on Friday night, but a loss by the Houston Astros kept the Mariners in first place in the division for the time being.
Seattle is hoping to get back in the win column with its ace, Luis Castillo, on the mound on Saturday night. He’ll take on Mets lefty David Peterson.
The Mariners have been one of the hottest teams in baseball lately, but can they sustain that for the month of September and earn a playoff berth?
Mariners vs. Mets probable pitchers for Saturday, Sept. 2
- Mariners: Luis Castillo (righty) – 11-7, 3.01 ERA
- Mets: David Peterson (lefty) – 3-7, 5.23 ERA

Here are the odds and my best bet for this matchup:
Mariners vs. Mets odds, run line and total
Mariners vs. Mets prediction and pick
This pitching matchup looks pretty lopsided on paper, as Castillo is far and away the more proven starter, but Peterson has been pitching well as of late.
In August, Peterson posted a 3.27 ERA in five starts, and he’s coming off a performance where he tossed seven innings of one-run ball against the Los Angeles Angels.
Seattle has been average against left-handed pitching this season, ranking 16th in OPS, so I think there is value in taking the UNDER in this matchup.
Castillo has been great in 2023, and he’s held opponents to three or fewer earned runs in 22 of his 27 starts.
Seattle has played a lot of games under this total of eight runs, including four of its last five matchups.
If Peterson can just hold Seattle in check a little, this game should go UNDER.
