The Mariners and Guardians renew pleasantries after playing in the first series of the 2023 season in Seattle.

Now, the Mariners travel to the east coast to take on Cleveland in the Guardians home opener. Seattle will send out Logan Gilbert to try and contain Cleveland's lineup once again while the home team counters with Aaron Civale.

This game is being lined as a coin flip, but is one team the correct side? Let's check out the odds and find out.

Mariners vs. Guardians odds, run line and total

Mariners vs. Guardians prediction and pick

Gilbert was excellent in his first start of the season, allowing just one run on four hits to the Guardians in six innings of work despite it being a loss for the Mariners. I like him to keep it rolling against Cleveland, who has talent in the lineup but struggled to find contact against Gilbert, who punched out seven in the prior meeting.

On the other side, Civale tossed seven shutout innings in that win against the Mariners only only three strikeouts. There were plenty of balls in play for the Mariners but the Mariners couldn't get on base and cash in runs.

Civale had it working last start, but he is a year removed from a near-5.00 ERA while allowing more than eight hits per nine innings. I don't trust this pitcher against a Mariners team that will likely round into form after a 2-5 start.

I'm banking on regression and the trusty arm of Gilbert to get the Mariners in the win column here.
