In a move that we started hearing rumblings about while the team was in Los Angeles playing the Dodgers, the team has finally pulled the plug on Scott Servais.

That's right, the Mariners have fired Scott Servais effective immediately. We wondered if he was going to make it out of LA, and it now seems that he in fact did NOT make it back home, with the announcement of his firing coming out on the teams' travel day as they head home to play the Giants.

The Mariners have fired Scott Servais

Servais was actually one of the most successful managers ever to sit at the helm for the Mariners. He was there for almost nine years, held a winning percentage of .514 (no, not 54% you trolls), and goes down as the second-winningest manager in team history behind only Sweet Lou himself. While it may seem from that mark that he was doing fine, there were constant questions about his game management and the underperfomance of a team that seemed more talented than their record indicated.

His replacement isn't the one that many thought it would be. Early rumors had it as Kristopher Negron, the Mariners' current First Base coach. Instead, it is going to be The Man. That's right, Dan Wilson is now the interim manager for the Mariners, and the former fan-favorite will be taking over immeadiately for the Mariners, starting with the upcoming series against the Giants.

Dan Wilson doesn't have any experience running a ship like he is going to be doing for the Mariners, but maybe that is what this team needs for the rest of the season. He's been in the booth once in a while for the Mariners, and has still been involved with baseball and the team since he stepped away from playing. The 14-year pro (final 12 in Seattle) will be facing a challenge in taking over the team, trying to avoid them falling under 500 for the first time since April.

The Scott Servais era in Seattle is over. While I'm not necessarily sad to see you go, Scott, I am thankful for the time you spent here. With the change happening, let's hope that it gives the Mariners a spark to finish out the year and gets them back into that playoff race.
