Game 1: Bryce Miller only goes 4 innings but Suarez and Mariners batters score 7. Final 7-5 Mariners
Bryce Miller was not his sharpest in this game as he only went 4 innings, giving up 3 runs and striking out 6. But the the bullpen would go 5 innings only giving up 2 runs and striking out 5. Matt Brash surrendered the 2 runs on a Kyle Isbel home run in the 7th inning.
Geno Suarez and JP Crawford both had huge nights in this one. JP started the game with a leadoff home run, and would go 3 for 4 with 3 runs scored. In the bottom of the fourth Geno singled in 2 runs to make it 4-3 Mariners, he would also add a much-needed insurance run in the 8th with a double. Geno would finish 3 for 5 with 3 RBI's.
The Andres Munoz experience would come in to close it out in the 9th but he did not make it easy as he would load the bases giving up a single to Matt Beaty, a walk to Kyle Isbel, and an intentional walk to Bobby Witt Jr. But with 2 outs he would get Freddy Fermin to strike out to end the game. Mariners win 7-5.
Game 2: Mariners hit 7 home runs while demolishing the Royals. Final 15-2 Mariners
The Mariners hit 7 home runs in this game, which ties the franchise record. Josh Rojas got it started in the third inning with a home run to right. Then Teoscar Hernandez would hit a grand slam in the same inning. Teo would hit another one later in this game as the Mariners offense didn't have any trouble scoring against Jordan Lyles.
Logan Gilbert was also strong in this one as he went 7 innings, giving up 1 run and striking out 7. The only run he gave up was a homerun to Drew Waters in the 5th inning. Royals would get one more in the 8th inning off of Luke Weaver. Mariners win 15-2.
Game 3: Mariners finish the sweep behind strong Luis Castillo performance. Final 3-2 Mariners
The Mariners only scored 3 runs in this game, a little bit less than they are used to lately. Teoscar Hernandez would get it started with a homerun in the second inning off of Alec Marsh. Julio would add 2 more with a homerun in the 5th inning.
Luis Castillo pitched like his normal self in this game, going 7 innings and striking out 6, while giving up no runs. Gabe Speirer gave up a 2 run homerun to Nelson Velazquez in the 8th. Andres Munoz shut the door on the Royals with a dominant inning, striking out the side. Mariners win 3-2.
With this sweep of the Royals and the Rangers losing 2 out of 3 to the Twins. The Mariners are in sole possession of first place in the AL West. This is the first time they have been in first this late in the season since 2003! The Mariners will start a 3 game series at home against the Athletics next while they hope to keep their hot play going.
