Mariners Starting Pitching is being shown early respect in AL Cy Young odds for 2023
The Seattle Mariners have a special duo in their starting rotation, so much so, that they have odds to win the Cy Young Award in the American League. Yes, both of them.
The Mariners may have the best pitching staff that they have had in a little bit, at least in my opinion. They will have the starting positions down for the most part, and the bullpen shouldn't be too shabby either.
After ending the long drought last season, it would appear, based on the way the team and pitching staff is structured, that they think they can return to the postseason again this year, and go even deeper than they did in 2022.
A lot of that, and I have already said this a few times now, is because of the staff. And the staff is so good because of the Mariners' two aces, you could say.
Robbie Ray and Luis Castillo are supposed to be two of the best starters in the American League, and their betting odds for them to win the Cy Young Award show.
While the two didn't have the highest odds, or fifth highest, and aren't the big names like Jacob deGrom or Gerrit Cole, they are still on the odds list.
Depending on where you look around online, Ray is tied for the sixth-highest odds at +1200, while Castillo has the 10th-highest odds at +1500. It is worth noting that the spread on these odds can be fairly wide, as Robbie Ray is all the way up to +4000 at some other locales. Meanwhile, Logan Gilbert can be found from +1800 to +4000.
Sure, those odds aren't the best, but it says something else about this team. From a national standpoint, the staff is getting recognition, those two in particular. Nationally people have hope that the Mariners can not only have two really good starters but that they can be a good team, as Ceasars also has Julio Rodriguez getting pretty good odds to win the AL MVP.
I wouldn't take those odds and bet on them, mainly because there are so many guys in the American League that are good. But, it is a sign of what could happen this year. And, heck, I would happily be wrong.
