Mariners probable pitchers & starting lineups vs. Toronto Blue Jays, July 6
The Mariners can win this series against the Toronto Blue Jays with a win today in the Saturday afternoon matchup
The Mariners have a chance to win their third game in a row with a win in today's game against the Toronto Blue Jays. They won yesterday's contest by a score of 2-1, behind a masterful performance from Luis Castillo and the bullpen. The Mariners had baserunners all game long, and the ABs were a lot more competitive than the previous few games. They still struck out 13 times, and have struck out at least 11 times over their last 10 games played. They lead the majors in strikeouts and it is not particularly close.
Probable pitchers for today's game against the Blue Jays, July 6
- The Mariners will call up Emerson Hancock to start today's game with the absence of Bryan Woo. Hancock (3-3, 4.79 ERA) has been lights out down in Tacoma over the last month or so. He even won the PCL Pitcher of the Month award for June. In his seven starts down in Tacoma, he has [itched to a 2-1 record with a 1.64 ERA over 38.1 innings of work. He has struck out 31 and walked 15, while giving up just two home runs in the hitter-friendly PCL.
- As for the Blue Jays, they will give the ball to the Cuban rookie Yariel Rodriguez. Rodriguez (0-3, 4.63 ERA) signed a five-year contract with the Blue Jays earlier this offseason but has missed some time with a back injury this year. He is coming off of his best career start against the Houston Astros, where he pitched 6.2 innings, gave up just two hits, two walks, one run, and struck out 6, but he earned the loss. In his 23.1 innings of work so far this year, he has an 8.9 K/9 and a 5.0 walk/9. Look for the Mariners to drive up his pitch count and take the free pass today.
