The mariners will play in a rare double header today, April 21st against the Colorado Rockies. Friday night's game in Denver was postponed due to weather, which turned out to be snow. Over 6 inches of snow dropped Friday into Saturday, making Saturday's game one of the coldest of the year for the Mariners. With a high of 34F, the Mariners were able to take game 1 of the series, winning 7-0.

Luis Castillo looks like he is back to his normal self, and the offense, led by Cal Raleigh and Julio Rodriguez, did more than enough to get the win. The Mariners have a chance to complete the sweep today, and continue this 4-game winning streak.

Game 1 Probable pitchers

The Mariners will send George Kirby (2-2, 6.64 ERA) to the mound in game 1. Even with the double header, George was slated to start Sunday's game anyways, so nothing changed for him in this start. George is coming off of a great start against the Cincinnati Reds, Kirby pitched 6 innings, only gave up 2 runs,, and struck out 6. He did not walk a batter and has only walked 2 batters all season. Look for George to keep the hot streak going against one of the worst teams in the league.

For the Rockies, they will send RHP Cal Quantrill (0-2, 5.57 ERA) to the bump against the Mariners. The Rockies acquired Quantrill from the Cleveland Guardians this past offseason. Quantrill, a former 8th overall pick, has not lived up to that hype in his career. He was really good from 2021-2022, but really struggled in 2023 and through 4 starts in 2024. His 5.57 ERA compares to his FIP of 5.66, so the underlying numbers are not hiding anything. The Mariners should be able to get to Quantrill.

Game 2 Probable pitchers

Emerson Hancock (1-2, 7.98 ERA) will start game 2 of the double header with the Rockies. Hancock was originally slated to start Friday night's game before it was postponed. Hancock has struggled so far this season. His 7.98 ERA is a little worse than his FIP of 6.09, but even that has been bad. He has given up 4 home runs in just 14.2 innings this season, something that could be a problem in Coors Field.

As for the Rockies, they will turn to Peter Lambert (2-0, 2.31 ERA). Lambert is a guy who can both start games and come out of the bullpen. He has appeared in 6 games this season, but will be making his first start of the season in game 2. Lambert seems to have been lucky so far in 2024. His FIP (4.17) is almost double his ERA, which means there should be some regression coming. Lambert's WHIP suggests that as well, as it is 1.457. He has walked 6 batters in his 11.1 innings of work in 2024.
