The Mariners won yesterday's game against the Guardians with a healthy score of 8-5. Despite their rise in the power rankings, Seattle players and fans know that Cleveland, leader of the AL Central division, will compete well with their talent and determination tonight.
Mariners vs. Guardians: Probable Starting Pitchers
- RHP Bryan Woo (3-0, 1.07 ERA, 24 K) Woo's probable start is a good sign for the 24-year-old pitcher and the Mariners team. Woo’s two recent replacements, Jhonathan Diaz and Emerson Hancock, must stay in AAA Tacoma for at least ten days. This means that the Mariners’ decision-makers believe that Woo can make more than one start without needing a replacement.
- The Mariners have won the last five games Woo started against the Royals, Yankees, Washington, Angels, and Oakland. He pitched six innings in these games except for the game against Oakland. Over the five games, he allowed four runs and one walk from 104 batters. His opponents had a .165 batting average against him.
- RHP Tanner Bibee (4-2, 3.94 ERA, 87 K) The Cleveland Guardians drafted 25-year-old Tanner Bibee in 2021 and he debuted last season in April. Bibee has pitched five or more innings in his last five starts, throwing seven innings in a win against Minnesota. He struck 39 batters out during this time.
- The Mariners have a slight advantage in batting against Bibee in Cleveland. His ERA is 2.84 away and 5.06 at home. Left-handed batters have a higher batting average against Bibee than do righties. This will be the first time the Mariners will have seen Bibee and the Guardians will have seen Woo. We will whether our Northern Californian can out-pitch Cleveland’s Southern Californian.
