We all knew that it was going to happen after the Mariners announced that they were Designating Ty France for assignment, but he official has a new home now. The Mariners were able to come to terms with one of their most common trade partners, and have officially moved on from Ty France.

Ty France trade

It's nice to see Ty France go to a hitter-friendly ballpark, as the Reds home stadium is one of the easiest to hit at. In fact, he goes from the worst park in baseball for hitters (30th, 91 Park Factor) to one of the best (4th best, 104 Park Factor). It would be 5th, but London sits 3rd and doesn't count for obvious reasons. Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati is also the easiest park in baseball to hit homers at, so keep an eye on a potential power surge from France if he sees time there.

The Mariners have traded Ty France to the Reds

It's unknown how much cash the Mariners are sending to cover the approximately $2.2M remaining of his 2024 contract, but you would have to think it would be a fair amount, but Seattle won't be on the hook for all of his salary is what it sounds like so far.

In return, the Mariners are getting a very young catcher who knows how to play defense behind the plate but has really struggled to hit the ball so far. Andruw Salcedo is only 21 years old with some limited professional ball experience in his young career. He's only seen 33 games in A ball through the last three seasons, but is hitting around .170 with no home runs and a single double in that time. Maybe he will learn to hit, but it looks like a name to make a deal happen more than anything else.

Things didn't end how anyone wanted them to for Ty France in Seattle. Hopefully he can find success in the National League with the Reds, and even punish the Padres at some point. Best of luck Ty, we are going to miss you.
