The Mariners made a potential under-the-radar move that could predict another trade in advance of today's trade deadline. With a limited number of roster spots available, the Mariners made it known this morning that they had outrighted the recently acquired Chris Devenski to Tacoma, clearing a spot on the 40-man roster.

Is this just a move? Or is it a precursor of something else to happen? It's hard to tell, especially when you are dealing with a team in the Mariners, looking at you Dipoto and Hollander, who make more moves than arguably any other team in baseball.

Devenski hadn't appeared in the bigs for the Mariners, so you can't say that it was a big surprise to see him removed from the 40-man. If anything, it was a bigger surprise back when the signing happened than it was do see the backside of it and them clearing the spot.

You would have to think that another move is in the works, and this is foresight by the team to clear the way for a trade that is coming in advance of this afternoon. Maybe it's just funky timing, but it seems like it would be done after the fact if there was just an in-house move coming, especially with the team in the middle of a series on the other side of the country.

What could be coming for the Mariners? Does this mean that they are looking actively for another reliever? Could there be some kind of combo deal coming? Or is it clearing space for that big bat (alongside the Arozarena trade) that so many fans have been clamoring for.
