The 2024 Mariners may not have experienced a happy ending on the field, but they can still celebrate one of their own for a marvelous effort in the broadcast booth. It was revealed earlier this week that broadcaster Dave Sims is among the 10 finalists for the annual Ford C. Frick Award, which is an honor given out by the National Baseball Hall of Fame.

Sims has called games for Seattle for two decades and is hoping to join Dave Niehaus as the only Mariners broadcaster to earn this prestigious award. Niehaus was given the award in 2008.

But while Niehaus wrapped up his career in Seattle, that may not be the same for Sims. At 71 years old, Sims spends his offseason living in Manhattan with his wife, which has led to some speculation that he may want to wear the headset in the Empire State.

Sims' name has been in the mix to take over as the radio play-by-play for the New York Yankees, officially replacing John Sterling, who is also among the finalists for the Frick Award. Sims considers New York home, which could make for the perfect fit to take over another living legend's duty.

The full list of candidates for the Frick Award can be found here. The winner will be revealed on Dec. 11 in Dallas at the MLB Winter Meetings.

If Sims wins the award, will this be his last time representing the Mariners? If so, he would walk away from a team that missed the postseason in three of the last four years on one of the final days of the season, which could be a breath of fresh air for him. He has been on the call for countless memorable moments, but the Mariners' run ever since 2002 has been brutal. They made the playoffs just once over that span. The Yankees, on the other hand, are in the postseason almost every year and are considered World Series contenders very often. They have star players, a massive international market, and an ownership that doesn't shy away from spending.

Moving to New York during the baseball season would certainly be a change of pace for Sims. Considering the Bronx Bombers' reputation and track record, there would be far fewer heartbreaking games to discuss than he had to deal with in the Emerald City.

If Sims does go, a nice ending to the story would be him taking home the Ford C. Frick hardware to commemorate his incredible run with the M's.
