The Mariners are now dealing with their first major injury to their lineup in 2024. Dominic Canzone is headed to the injured list with a sprained AC joint in his left shoulder. The injury came in the top of the second inning when Cubs OF Mike Tauchman hit a ball to deep left field, and Canzone made the catch up against the wall. He never seemed to slow down when he hit the wall, and he was able to hold onto the ball to complete the catch.

Canzone was off to a good start this season. Canzone leads the Mariners with 3 home runs, and has drove in 6. He is currently hitting .219/.286/.531/.817 with an OPS+ of 136. He was really coming into his own over the last week, both offensively and defensively.

"He had an MRI taken this morning. It is a sprain in his joint in his left shoulder, so timeline? I have no timeline on that yet but he's gonna be out a little while. It's a couple of weeks at least."

Scott Servais, Mariners Manager

Scott went on to say that the injury does not require surgery. That is great news, maybe even the best-case scenario for the injury. That is the game sometimes, injuries happen. The good teams can overcome the injuries, and the bad teams don't. Let's see how this impacts the Mariners moving forward.

With Canzone heading to the injured list, the Mariners called up young outfielder Jonatan Clase. He is ranked #10 on the Mariners' top prospects list, according to MLB Pipeline. Clase stole 79 bases in the minors last season, and he is a switch hitter. So far this season in AAA Tacoma, he is hitting .311/.396/.622/1.018 with 2 home runs and 3 stolen bases. He also has a 12:8 K/walk ratio, which he has been working on since spring training.

As always, Go Mariners!
