Mariners possible Target #1: Jonathan India

The first target that Morosi mentions is former NL rookie of the year second baseman Jonathan India of the Cincinnati Reds. India has 3 years of club control left and has been someone that I have thought about being on the Mariners. But honestly, I am not sure about him anymore. Since his rookie season, he has dealt with injuries. In 2022 he only played in 103 games and in 2023 he only played in 119 games, and his stats have been just average.

In 2023 India was a 1.3 WAR player and his slashline was .244/.338/.407 with 16 homeruns and 61 RBI's and 78 runs. His OPS+ was 100. With a 20.6% K rate and 9.8% walk rate, he was slightly better than MLB average in those categories. India had a wrc+ of 99 in 2023, again he was very average. I am just not sold on India, it would depend on what we would have to give up to get him but I think I would rather give Josh Rojas a chance at second, he really impressed me in his 46 games with the Mariners in 2023 and has shown above average production in years prior to 2023.
