Major League Baseball announced the 2024 schedule for all 30 teams, and I cannot wait for next season to start already. For the 2023 season, MLB changed the scheduling format so every team will play every team throughout the season. This gives Mariners fans a chance to see NL stars like Paul Goldschmidt, Bryce Harper and Pete Alonso every season.
The 2024 season will begin Thursday, March 28th with a 4 game series against the Boston Red Sox. This will be a very popular series, as the Sox travel well. Mariners fans could also maybe see Shohei Ohtani start Opening Day? (We can only hope!) They will also finish off the first homestand against the Cleveland Guardians, the team the M's faced on opening weekend earlier this year.
The Chicago Cubs and the Cincinnati Reds will be in town for the second homestand of the season. The Cubbies will be here from Friday, April 12 - Sunday, April 14th. Elly De La Cruz and the Reds will be here from Monday, April 15th - Wednesday, April 17th. The Cubs coming to Seattle will be very popular, especially for a weekend series. The Monday game against the Reds is Jackie Robinson Day. On that day, every player will wear the number 42, a tredition started by our Ken Griffey Jr.
April will end with another 6 game homestand, starting on Friday, April 26th. The Mariners will welcome Seattle Native Corbin Carroll and the Arizona Diamondbacks. Ronald Acuna Jr and his Atlanta Braves will follow the DBacks through Seattle. Other marquee matchups include a 4 game series in the Bronx to face the New York Yankees. That series will be from May 20-23, smack in the middle of a 10 game in 10 day East Coast road trip. That trip also includes 3 games in Baltimore, and 3 in Washington D.C.
The Month of August will be one of the toughest of the 2024 season for the Mariners. The first homestand includes 3 games against the Philadelphia Phillies, 3 against the Detroit Tigers and 3 against the New York Mets. The M's then go on the road to Detroit, Pittsburgh and the Dodgers. Then it is back home to face the San Francisco Giants and the Tampa Bay Rays.
September brings the San Diego Padres and the New York Yankees to town. They will also have games against every American League West rival sprinkled throughout the month. The season comes to a close with a 3 game series against the Oakland Athletics September 27-29th.
We are all Mariners fans here. I love the Mariners. But i am also a baseball fan. I love watching my favorite team square off against some of baseball's best. Elly De La Cruz, Ronald Acuna Jr, Fernando Tatis Jr. are just some of the names i want to see in person. I always want the Mariners to win, but i also love watching star players be star players. 2024 has the making to be an exciting year, and i for one can not wait! As always, Go Mariners!
