Dylan Moore has given the Mariners a true utility man in 2024
The Mariners utility man has been solid, as Dylan Moore has been providing the team consistency in a unique role.
After coming through with a big play defensively in Tuesday night's game, Dylan Moore continues to show how important he is to this team. In his pre-game presser on Wednesday, Scott Servais mentioned how vital Dylan Moore has been to the Mariners in 2024.
"Dylan has the right mindset, is real impactful, and can play everywhere."
On Tuesday night, with the game on the line, Moore made a sweet play on a slow roller and helped the Mariners hang on to a one-run lead. He retired Orlando Arcia with the bases loaded as he made a great throw to first on a tough play.
Dylan Moore is impacting the game with his glove and his bat
Not only did Moore make a fantastic play on defense late in Tuesday's game, but he also came up big with the bat. Moore laced a two-out RBI double off the wall in left field, against Braves starter Reynaldo Lopez, to put the Mariners up 3-0 in the fourth inning. His clutch double would be crucial for the Mariners, as Seattle would hold on to beat the Braves 3-2.
Scott Servais likes what he sees from Dylan Moore's at bats
In his pre-game meeting with the media prior to Wednesday's game against the Braves, Scott Servais said he likes what he sees out of Dylan Moore's at-bats this year.
"Dylan's at bats have been very competitive and he is doing a good job of controlling the zone."
Servais would add that Dylan has been seeing the ball well since Spring Training, which has carried into this season's start. This is a welcome sign from a player the Mariners want to utilize each game. Even though Moore's batting average does not show it, (he is hitting .197), he does have eight walks in 21 games, and a .306 OBP, which is what Servais said he is encouraged by.
In Dylan Moore, the Mariners have a real utility man they can plug in anywhere
The Mariners have used Dylan Moore in a variety of different ways this season. Moore started the season playing the outfield and recently has been seeing more time at shortstop with J.P. Crawford injured. Scott Servais has also put Dylan Moore off the bench as well, knowing he can use him as a defensive replacement, pinch-hitter, and pinch-runner. Dylan Moore has come in real handy for the Mariners. He can play several positions in both the infield and outfield, and also provides a unique skill set for the M's to utilize.
