He can lock-down left field

Canzone was terrific last year in left field for the Mariners and did an excellent job of playing solid defense. In 20 starts for the Mariners at the position, he had just one error out of 49 chances in left field. He made a couple of highlight reel catches as well, which were big for the Mariners in 2023. With questions surrounding who will play left field in 2024, Canzone has proven he will not hurt Seattle defensively.

Left field has been a challenge for the Mariners to fill throughout the history of their franchise. Other than Raul Ibanez who played left field for the Mariners from 2004-2008, the Mariners have not had a consistent starter at the position. In the last three seasons, the Mariners have had six different left-fielders: Shed Long, Jake Fraley, Jarred Kelenic, Jesse Winker, Sam Haggerty, and Dominic Canzone. It's easy to see just how unstable the Mariners have been at the left field position.

Hopefully, Dominic Canzone can give the Mariners a steady left fielder who they can count on as their everyday starter. The complexity of Canzone starting each game is he has struggled mightily against left handed pitchers. This is why Seattle could decide to platoon him with another corner outfielder such as Sam Haggerty, Dylan Moore, or Samad Taylor if those struggles for Canzone persist. If Canzone can learn how to hit lefties, he could easily become an everyday left-field starter.
