For the Seattle Mariners, spring training is no longer in the future. It has arrived in Peoria, Arizona, and the vibes are already off the charts.

It's mostly the same team as the one that went to Game 7 of the ALCS last year, save for a few new additions. To this end, it's meet-and-greet time for Brendan Donovan, who quickly made an impression after arriving early on Wednesday.

There is bound to be a steady trickle of newsworthy developments coming out of Peoria in the days and weeks to come. But for these early days, the best news out of Mariners camp is actually more of a "no news" situation.

Mariners Spring Training Update: Dan Wilson reports no injuries and no surprises

Mariners manager Dan Wilson held his first media session of the spring on Wednesday, which lasted almost 15 minutes in total. He talked mostly about the mood in camp and otherwise dished out information that had already been reported via some means or another.

The real takeaway is this: Wilson had no new injuries to report.

It's not necessarily surprising, but it still deserves a sigh of relief in context of what's happening elsewhere around MLB. It's been a bloodbath at other camps, particularly concerning broken hamate bones suffered by Francisco Lindor, Corbin Carroll and Jackson Holliday.

For now, at least, the Mariners are beating the odds in the health department. After a year in which injuries threatened them at every turn, you gladly take that.

Mariners Spring Training Update: Luis Castillo could also participate in the World Baseball Classic

Another thing Wilson spent time talking about was the World Baseball Classic, which is going to disrupt Seattle's spring more than most. The Mariners are sending 16 players to the WBC, the most of any team in the league.

It could actually be 18 in the end. The Designated Pitcher Pools for the tournament were revealed this week, and they contain Luis Castillo (Dominican Republic) and Jhonathan Díaz (Venezuela).

The DPP pools are reserves that teams can dip into after the initial round of the tournament. Each club has the option of replacing as many as four pitchers after the first round, and then up to two pitchers after the quarterfinal round.

This doesn't mean Castillo and Díaz will be called on, but it's a distinct possibility. Castillo's involvement would be especially notable, as no other members of the Mariners' projected rotation are involved with the WBC in any way.

Mariners Spring Training Update: Team reveals Cactus League broadcast schedule

The Mariners are debuting a new broadcast/streaming model this year, and fans will have 16 chances to get a taste during spring training.

The team announced on Tuesday that 16 Cactus League games will be streamed for free on Mariners.TV, starting on February 20 vs. the San Diego Padres and ending on March 22 vs. the Chicago White Sox. The slate includes a Spring Breakout game on March 20, in which Mariners prospects will take on prospects from the Milwaukee Brewers organization.

Mariners.TV is a new service that effectively replaces ROOT Sports, which was shuttered at the end of the 2025 season. The actual broadcasting crews on the TV and radio sides haven't changed, though this will be Rick Rizzs' last season as the Mariners' lead radio voice.
