We're all waiting on Jerry Dipoto to make his first big splash for the Mariners this offseason. It almost seems like it could happen any day now, but as Seattle fans sit around and wait for their front office to attempt to make the team better, more rumors are going to start swirling.

The M's seem to be tied to a lot of potential trades, or are in on the sweepstakes for several big-name players. One thing is for certain with this organization: they need to ink a solidified everyday third baseman. While there is a bevy of options, a new star-caliber player has surfaced as a prospective option for a Mariners club in desperate need of building a respectable lineup.

The latest player tied to a possible trade is Philadelphia Phillies third baseman Alec Bohm. The 28-year-old is now reportedly on the trade block for the Phillies as an attempt by the franchise to "shake things up" after another season falling short of the World Series.

Bohm was an All-Star for the first time in his career this past season and he capped the year with a second-straight 97-RBI campaign and four OAA, per FanGraphs. This is a deal 100% worth considering for the Mariners, a team that had Josh Rojas offer subpar offensive metrics at third base in 2024.

Mariners Rumors: Phillies' Alec Bohm could be perfect fit for Seattle

It's not easy finding the next Kyle Seager, but Bohm has shown to be a consistent player, and is only getting better each season. It also seems like Bohm should move on from Philadelphia, as he doesn't seem to be the most popular guy in the clubhouse. Perhaps a change of scenery is exactly what he needs in order to mature as a professional player and unlock his full potential.

Seattle also wouldn't need to burn a hole in their pocket to acquire him. He's owed just over $8 million in 2025 before hitting his third year of arbitration eligibility in 2026. This could save the Mariners some money as they try and sign other players, like a first baseman or a versatile infielder. In terms of the trade package? The Mariners have the prospect capital to swing this deal fairly easily.

Could Alec Bohm be the answer to Seattle's problems? Possibly, especially if a major target like Alex Bregman signs elsewhere. Other clubs will surely check in on Bohm, but that shouldn't deter Seattle, especially since this could give them more spending flexibility in free agency.
