Sometimes, it is refreshing when media members tell it like it is. It's a bit of a hurdle for journalists to share their opinions, especially when it comes to an individual player. However, for sports radio hosts, you will catch them hammering into a player from time to time.

The Mariners are trying to bolster their roster in a few areas this offseason. Rumors and predictions have surfaced nonstop these last few weeks, and the M's have been linked to a few players. While some Mariners fans are excited to potentially welcome one to Seattle, a local radio host isn't sold on what he could bring to the table.

Mariners radio host shoots down idea of Seattle trading for Phillies' Alec Bohm

Philadelphia Phillies All-Star third baseman Alec Bohm has been a focal point for the Mariners over these last few weeks. Third base is one of Seattle's biggest needs moving forward, but Mike Salk of "Seattle Sports' Brock & Salk" is not having it with Bohm.

Understandably, Bohm is an acquired taste. He's had his run-ins with the media and his prior distaste towards the city of Philadelphia, but much of that seems to be behind him. The former third overall pick posted career-highs in just about every offensive category, as well as four outs above average (OAA) at a difficult defensive position.

Bohm, 28, had a brutal September, clipping a .170 average in the final month of the regular season. He also went 1-for-13 in the postseason, so Bohm might not be Salk's favorite guy on the market based on recent performance. Everyone in Seattle is looking for a consistent hitter to root for, especially one who performs in the postseason.

While it's nice to see a media member genuinely offer their thoughts, Salk might be giving Bohm too tough of a time. He has driven in 97 runs in each of the last two seasons, and he powered 61 extra-base hits in 2024. The talent is clearly there, and the metrics do favor him. Despite having a horrible September, Bohm still finished the season with a 117 OPS+, which would have been the third-highest among Seattle hitters (minimum 80 games played), trailing only Cal Raleigh and Luke Raley.

That is not terrible company to be in if you are Bohm, but the criticism he received from Salk is not too much of a shock. Bohm is not for everybody, but his ability to be an All-Star on offense and defense should not steer Seattle away from conjuring up a deal to land him. We appreciate differing opinions, but any team would be happy to roster Bohm.
